PEST CONTROL
My Roles: Sound Design, Foley, Re-Recording Mix For this film, I focused on maintaining a sense of space – I wanted the mix to be very clean and very dynamic - You may feel the need to turn your volume up! That's because this mix has a wide dynamic range, where the distance between loud and quiet sounds is exaggerated and optimized for emotion. This mix is intended for a controlled environment (Theaters and Festivals) and meets the loudness standards for streaming services like Netflix (around -27lufs) Each place your project gets uploaded is a little bit different. Because of that, I provide multiple different mixes for my clients, so that your project is optimized for a wide variety of distributions. Listen to how the ambient noise of the spaceship changes depending on the angle and position of the camera! |
SHEEP IN THE OUTHOUSE
My Roles: Sound Mixer, Sound Design, Foley, Re-Recording Mix (CW Language, Sex, Drugs) With this film, I heavily focused on ambiances and how they shape the environment and enhance the narrative. This project was an exercise in subtlety – Curating and layering multiple ambiances to make soundscapes that match the tone of each scene, having background sounds ebb in and out to match the musicality of the dialog (e.x. making an air-conditioner turn off to mark a significant beat during a coversation (9:04)), leveling each line in a way that matches the emotion – focusing on small things to influence the viewers’ attention towards the story instead of the sound. The story is the most important thing, after all! Having most of the soundtrack be diegetic was very fun to process – There's a moment (12:45) where the music shifts from non-diegetic to diegetic, and i keep the party going in the subsequent dialog scene in the bedroom. |

MEMORY BOX
My Roles: Sound Design, Foley, Re-Recording Mix (CW: Drug Use) Everything went so well for this film -- Amazing voice actors, a beautiful soundtrack, and an incredibly charming story and visual style. Something I really appreciated with this project was having the stems for the music - I was able to thoroughly incorporate the soundtrack into the environment (listen to how the sound changes as the scene transitions from the bathroom to the surreal abyss at the end. @2:36) My main focus was to maximize the impact of the narrative and maintain a separation between different timelines/realities in a way that was immersive and not distracting. A very fun puzzle was maintaining the bass, so that the narrative maintained a sense of power, while also having the artifacts and character of a VHS tape. |
